Illusion Connect Global Release - Hero Collector RPG Gameplay Review

Illusion Connect by Superprism Technology just had its global release on iOS and Android today October 22, 2020. The game is a turn-based RPG Hero Collector (Yes I know there has been a lot of them) but Illusion Connect really seems like there was some love put behind the game where the story is actually engaging, fast paced combat, great gacha rates (I got 4 SSR Waifus in 30 pulls - you can see it in the video above) and each character actually has some personality! Read more about the gameplay and some game features.

You are the protagonist in this Illusion Connect where you will lead a group of Radiants to resist the Nightmares. Dreams and desires are amplified by mysterious powers which can sink into reality and threaten mankind. People who have their dream desires amplified are called Nightmare Lords and it is up to you and your team to stop them and bring them back to reality!

Characters / Waifus

There are over 50 Radiants / Characters in Illusion Connect and each has a unique personality which you can engage with. Your decisions throughout the story will affect your affection points with each character, so choose wisely! The Gacha rates are quite good, usually within the first 30 minutes of gameplay, you will get 40 free pulls from the game. Most people will get anywhere from 2-3 SSR from these (I happen to get lucky and get 4X SSR). You will be able to have 10 characters on your board which slots need to be unlocked as you level up.

Like many other turn based combat RPG's Illusion Connect is about the same here. There is auto-play and it will pick the best characters to put on your board and fight for you. Of course you can also play yourself and tactically place the best characters for the right situation. Each character has different affinities and roles on the battlefield so make sure you have a balanced party such as a Tank, DPS, and Healer.

Features and Game Modes

On top of the main story line, challenges and PvP, Illusion Connect has quite a few game modes unique to the genre which is a great added value such as a housing system, pet system and living with partners.

Final Thoughts

To be honest, at first I was sceptical about Illusion Connect since it was just another Hero Collector RPG (with tons coming out this year) so I had my reservations. After playing it for about an hour or so, I have to admit I actually had a lot of fun and the story/characters were quite engaging. I also really enjoyed the combat since it was fast paced and skills were fun to watch. If you enjoy hero collector games/gacha I definitely recommend this one. However if you do not like these kind of games, I do have to say that Illusion Connect does not revolutionise the genre. (Although it is still one of the better ones)
